Yinwum facts for kids
The Yinwum people, sometimes called Jinwum, were an Indigenous Australian group. They lived in the Cape York Peninsula region of Queensland, Australia. These people have a rich history and culture.
The Yinwum's Traditional Lands
The Yinwum people lived on their traditional lands, which covered about 800 square miles (2,100 km2) (2,072 square kilometers). This area was mainly around the Upper Wenlock River, also known as the Batavia River. Their lands were located south of the Moreton Telegraph Station.
The Yinwum shared their borders with several other Indigenous groups:
- To their north were the Nyuwathai people.
- The Koko-Yao people lived to their east.
- To their southwest were the Mbewum and Wikampama peoples.
- The Winduwinda people, specifically a group called the Ndwangit, lived to their west, across the Cox River.
