About Yocco's Hot Dogs

How Yocco's Started

Yocco's, Fogelsville

Yocco's first opened in 1922. It was located at 625 Liberty Street in Allentown. Back then, it was called the Liberty Grill.

Growing Through the Years

From the 1970s to the end of the 1990s, Yocco's opened five more restaurants. These were in Allentown and nearby towns. The first new store was on Hamilton Street in Allentown. After that, stores opened in Emmaus, Fogelsville, Trexlertown, and Hanover Township.

Yocco's has even been in a comic strip! It appeared several times in Zippy. This is a comic strip that appears in newspapers across the country.

Yocco's Today

In 2016, the original Liberty Street location closed down. A new Yocco's opened in the South Mall in Salisbury Township.

Today, Yocco's has six locations in the Lehigh Valley. Three are in Allentown. There is one each in Emmaus, Fogelsville, and Trexlertown. In December 2023, the company shared on Facebook that the Trexlertown store would close. Its last day was December 22, 2023.

Gary Iacocca runs Yocco's now. He is the third person from his family to own the business. The company's main office is in Emmaus.

The Name Story

The name "Yocco's" came from the family's last name, "Iacocca." Many people in the area were Pennsylvania Dutch. They found it hard to say "Iacocca" because it is an Italian name. Instead, they often said "Yocco." So, the family changed the name of the restaurant to Yocco's. This made it easier for everyone to say.
