Yoshiaki Maruyama (丸山 良明, Maruyama Yoshiaki, born October 12, 1974) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender during his career.

Yoshiaki Maruyama's Football Journey

Yoshiaki Maruyama was born in Machida, Tokyo on October 12, 1974. He loved playing football from a young age. After finishing his studies at Waseda University, he joined a top Japanese football club. This club was called Yokohama Marinos in 1997.

Early Days and Loan Spell

When he first joined Yokohama Marinos, Yoshiaki played as a central defender. This was because some of the main defenders were playing for the Japanese national team. However, after 1998, he didn't get to play as much.

In 2000, he moved to Montedio Yamagata. This was a J2 League club, which is the second division in Japan. He joined them on a loan, which means he played for them for a short time. At Montedio Yamagata, he became a regular player in the defense.

Success with Albirex Niigata

Yoshiaki returned to Yokohama F. Marinos in 2001. But he still found it hard to get playing time. So, in 2002, he moved to another J2 club, Albirex Niigata. This move was a big success for him.

He became a key defender for Albirex Niigata. In 2003, his team won the J2 League championship. This meant they were promoted to the J1 League, the top division, for the 2004 season. However, from 2004, Yoshiaki faced some injuries. These injuries meant he played less often. He left Albirex Niigata at the end of 2005.

Later Career and Retirement

After taking six months to recover from his injuries, Yoshiaki joined Vegalta Sendai in July 2006. This was another J2 League club. Unfortunately, injuries continued to affect his playing time there.

In 2008, he moved to AC Nagano Parceiro. This team played in the Japanese Regional Leagues, which are lower divisions. He played in every match during the 2008 season. In 2009, Yoshiaki decided to move to Thailand. He played for Chonburi in 2009. Then, he played for Thai Port from 2010 to 2011. He decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2011 season.
