Yoshiaki Oiwa (大岩 義明, Ōiwa Yoshiaki, born 19 July 1976) is a Japanese equestrian. He is often called "Yoshi" by his friends and fans. He is famous for his amazing skills in horse riding, especially in a sport called Eventing. Eventing is like a triathlon for horses and riders. It combines three different parts: dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. Yoshiaki Oiwa has won many medals for Japan, including an Olympic bronze medal.

Yoshi's Journey in Horse Riding
Yoshiaki Oiwa was born on July 19, 1976, in Nagoya, Japan. He started riding horses when he was in junior high school. Later, at university, he began to focus on eventing. This is a challenging sport that tests both the rider and the horse.
Training and Moving Abroad
In 2001, Yoshi moved to the United Kingdom. He wanted to train with top riders and improve his eventing skills. He learned a lot from Andrew Hoy, a very experienced equestrian. In 2009, Yoshi moved again, this time to Germany. He now trains with German rider Dirk Schrade. Training with different experts has helped him become a world-class rider.
Awards and Family
Yoshi's hard work has paid off with many awards. He was named the Best Equestrian Athlete in Japan several times. He received this special award in 2005, 2007, and 2011.
Horse riding talent runs in Yoshi's family! His aunt was an international figure skater. She is now an Olympic judge, helping decide who wins. His uncle also won a silver medal in swimming at the Rome Olympic Games.

Yoshi has had amazing success at the Asian Games. He has won several gold, silver, and bronze medals for Japan.
- In 2006, he won a gold medal in individual eventing. He also won a silver medal with his team.
- In 2010, he won a gold medal in team eventing. He also earned a bronze medal in individual eventing.
- In 2018, he had a fantastic performance. He won two gold medals! One was for individual eventing, and the other was for team eventing.
Other Important Competitions
Yoshi has also competed in other major equestrian events. In 2017, he finished 8th at the famous Badminton Horse Trials. This is one of the toughest eventing competitions in the world.
Later that year, he made history at the Bramham Horse Trials in England. He became the first Japanese rider to win a CCI*** (a high-level competition) outside of Japan. This was a huge achievement for him and for Japanese equestrian sport.
