Víctor Yoshimar Yotún Flores (born April 7, 1990) is a professional footballer from Peru. He plays for the Peruvian club Sporting Cristal and is also a key player for the Peru national team. Yoshimar is very versatile on the field. He can play as a left back (a defender on the left side), a left winger (an attacking player on the left), or a defensive midfielder (a player who protects the defense).

Yoshimar's Club Journey

Starting Out in Football

Yoshimar Yotún began playing football at a young age. When he was just 7 years old, he joined a youth football academy called Academia Deportiva Cantolao. He trained there until he was 12.

After that, he moved to the youth teams of Circolo Sportivo Italiano for two seasons. Later, he played for Deportivo Real FC's youth teams. In 2007, he made a big step by joining one of Peru's largest football clubs, Sporting Cristal, where he played in their youth squad.

Playing for José Gálvez

In January 2008, Yoshimar was loaned to José Gálvez FBC. This was his first chance to play professionally. He made his official debut on March 5, 2008, in a league match against Coronel Bolognesi FC. He scored his first goal just a few days later, on March 9, helping his team win 1–0 against Atlético Minero.

He played 28 league games and scored 3 goals for José Gálvez. His contributions helped the club avoid being moved down to a lower league that season.

First Time at Sporting Cristal

In January 2009, Yotún returned to Sporting Cristal. He played his first game for them on May 9, 2009, against FBC Melgar.

On May 27, 2012, Yoshimar played his 100th league match for Sporting Cristal. He even got to wear the captain's armband during part of that game!

Moving to Malmö FF

On January 27, 2015, Yoshimar moved to Europe! He signed a three-year contract with Malmö FF, a champion club in Sweden. He started as a left back.

Later, he showed how good he was in midfield positions. He became a very important player for Malmö FF, especially in 2017, and fans even voted him player of the month in July!

Playing in the USA with Orlando City

Yoshimar then moved to the United States. On August 4, 2017, he joined Orlando City SC in Major League Soccer. He played his first game for them on August 13.

On September 28, he scored his first goal for Orlando City in a big 6–1 win. He also helped set up two other goals in that game! In 2018, he was chosen as an All-Star player, which is a big honor.

Time with Cruz Azul

On December 27, 2018, Yotún moved to Cruz Azul, a well-known club in Mexico's Liga MX. He played there for several seasons.

Back to Sporting Cristal

On March 8, 2022, Yoshimar Yotún made a big return! He came back to play for his former club, Sporting Cristal, in Peru.

Yoshimar's International Career

Yoshimar Yotún has also had a fantastic career playing for his country, Peru.

Early International Games

In 2011, his great performances for Sporting Cristal caught the eye of the new Peru national team coach. Yoshimar was called up to play in the Kirin Cup. He made his national team debut against Japan.

In 2013, during a World Cup qualification game against Uruguay, Yoshimar was sent off (given a red card). This moment was difficult for him and for Peruvian fans.

Copa América Success

In 2015, Yoshimar was part of the Peruvian team that finished third in the 2015 Copa América tournament. He also played in all three group games of the 2016 Copa América Centenario.

Playing in the FIFA World Cup

A huge moment for Yoshimar and Peru came when they qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It was the first time Peru had made it to the World Cup in 36 years! Yoshimar was part of the 23-player squad that went to Russia, and he played in all three of Peru's group games.

On June 20, 2021, Yoshimar played his 100th match for Peru in a 2–1 win against Colombia during the 2021 Copa América. This is a huge achievement for any footballer!
