Yoshito Sengoku (仙谷 由人, Sengoku Yoshito, born January 15, 1946 – October 11, 2018) was an important Japanese politician. He was a member of the House of Representatives, which is part of Japan's national government called the Diet. He belonged to the Democratic Party.

Political Career
Early Life and Education
Yoshito Sengoku was born in Tokushima, Tokushima prefecture. He started studying at the University of Tokyo. While there, he passed the bar exam, which means he could become a lawyer. Because of this, he left the university before finishing his degree.
First Election and Party Membership
Sengoku was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1990. At that time, he was a member of the Japan Socialist Party. Later, he joined the Democratic Party.
Key Roles in Government
Yoshito Sengoku held several important jobs in the Japanese government. He worked closely with Prime Minister Naoto Kan. Some people in other political parties even called him the "second" Prime Minister. However, Sengoku said he did not have extra power and praised Kan as a strong leader.
- Chief Cabinet Secretary: From June 2010 to January 2011, he was the Chief Cabinet Secretary. This is a very important role, like being the government's main spokesperson and coordinator.
- Minister of Justice: He also served as the Minister of Justice from November 2010 to January 2011.
- Minister of State: He held other roles as a Minister of State for different areas, like National Strategy and Civil Service Reform.
Changes in Government
In January 2011, Sengoku left his top cabinet position. This happened because other political parties wanted changes in the government. Yukio Edano took over his role. Later, in March 2011, Prime Minister Naoto Kan appointed Sengoku as Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary.
End of Political Service
Yoshito Sengoku lost his seat in the general election on December 16, 2012. He passed away on October 11, 2018.
