Playing Career: From High School to Professional Football
Yoshiyuki Shinoda was born in Kofu, Japan, on June 18, 1971. After finishing high school, he started his football journey.
Early Days at Kofu SC
In 1990, he joined a club called Kofu SC. This team was part of the Japan Soccer League at the time. Even though he was with the team for a whole season, he only played in one match. After that, in 1991, he went to Chukyo University to continue his studies.
Time with Avispa Fukuoka
After graduating from university, Shinoda joined Fukuoka Blux in 1995. This club later changed its name to Avispa Fukuoka. In 1995, his team won the championship. This win helped them move up to the J1 League in 1996. The J1 League is the top football league in Japan.
Shinoda played many games for Avispa Fukuoka. He was a strong defensive midfielder for a long time. In 2001, his club finished 15th in the J1 League. Because of this, they were moved down to the J2 League in 2002. The J2 League is the second-highest league in Japan. Shinoda continued to play for Fukuoka in the J2 League. He stopped playing professional football at the end of the 2004 season.
Coaching Career: Leading Teams to Success
After he stopped playing, Shinoda began a new chapter as a coach.
Starting at Avispa Fukuoka
In 2005, he started coaching at Avispa Fukuoka, the same club where he played. He coached both the main team and the younger players. In July 2008, he got a big chance. The main coach, Pierre Littbarski, left the team. Shinoda was then chosen to be the new manager.
Under his leadership, Avispa Fukuoka did very well. In the 2010 J2 League, they finished in 3rd place. This great result meant the team was promoted back to the J1 League. However, in 2011, the team did not perform as well. Because of this, Shinoda was no longer the manager in August of that year.
Moving to FC Tokyo and Shimizu S-Pulse
In 2012, Shinoda joined FC Tokyo as an assistant coach. In July 2016, the manager, Hiroshi Jofuku, was removed from his position. This gave Shinoda another chance to be the main manager. He coached FC Tokyo until September 2017.
In 2018, he moved to Shimizu S-Pulse and became an assistant coach there. In May 2019, the manager, Jan Jönsson, was removed. For the third time in his career, Shinoda was promoted from assistant coach to manager.
Return to Ventforet Kofu and New Challenges
On November 30, 2022, Shinoda signed with Ventforet Kofu. This was the club he played for at the very beginning of his career. The team had just won the 2022 Emperor's Cup, which was a big surprise. However, their performance in the J2 League was not good. They finished 18th out of 22 teams. Even though they won the cup, Shinoda was removed from his role as manager right after the cup win. He then started managing the team for the 2023 season, returning to Kofu after 31 years.
As of 2025, Yoshiyuki Shinoda is the manager of Nantong Zhiyun, a club in China.
