Youngstown is a small, unincorporated community in Vigo County, Indiana. This means it is a group of homes and businesses that is not officially a town or city. It is located in the southern part of Honey Creek Township.
Youngstown is also part of the larger Terre Haute metropolitan area. This area includes the city of Terre Haute and nearby communities.
History of Youngstown
Youngstown was officially created as a village on March 31, 1868. A person named Chauncey R. Carr was responsible for setting it up.
It became an important stop on the Evansville & Terre Haute Rail Road. This train line was about seven miles south of Terre Haute.
The very first business in Youngstown opened in 1868. George Planett built it and also became the first postmaster. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. The Youngstown post office served the community until it closed in 1912. In 1890, about 39 people lived in Youngstown.
