Ysco facts for kids
Ysco is a company from Belgium that makes lots of delicious ice cream! They started making ice cream a long time ago, in 1949. Today, Ysco is one of the biggest ice cream makers in Europe. They are part of a larger company called Milcobel, which is a dairy cooperative.
Ysco makes ice cream for many different stores across Europe. This is called "private label" because the ice cream is sold under the store's own brand name, even though Ysco made it. They also have their own ice cream brands, like Ysco and Appassionato, which you might find in restaurants or cafes.
In 2009, Ysco produced a huge amount of ice cream – about 180 million liters! That's enough to fill many, many swimming pools!

How Ysco Started
Ysco's journey began in 1949 when they first started making ice cream in a place called Zarren.
Growing Bigger
- In 1975, Ysco built a new, bigger factory in Langemark. At that time, they were making about 200,000 liters of ice cream.
- In 1992, a company called Belgomilk cv was founded, which Ysco later became a part of.
- Ysco grew even more by buying other ice cream companies. In 1998, they bought OZF-Jamin ice cream in the Netherlands.
- By 2000, Ysco became an independent company, but still owned by Belgomilk.
- In 2001, they bought another ice cream company, Ségès-Frigécrème, in France.
Modernizing Production
- Ysco kept investing in new technology. In 2004, they added a new "magnum line" to make a specific type of ice cream. They also achieved a high safety standard called IFS.
- In 2006, they moved some of their machines from the Netherlands to their factories in France and Langemark.
- Also in 2006, a new plant for mixing ingredients was built in Langemark.
- In 2008, Ysco invested in a new line to make ice cream cones. They also built a new, automated cold storage facility in Ypres to keep all the ice cream frozen and fresh.
