In 2007, a report from Estyn praised the school. Estyn is the education inspection body for Wales. They noted the school's excellent results in GCSE and A Levels. These are important exams students take in the UK.

Efforts to Keep the School Open

In 2013, there were talks about closing Ysgol Dewi Sant. This was despite the school being ranked as a top school in Wales by the Western Mail newspaper.

By December 2014, the school had made many improvements. It was removed from Estyn's list of schools needing improvement. The school had improved its teaching and made security better.

However, Pembrokeshire County Council still held a meeting in January 2015. They discussed changes to education in Wales, which included the possible closure of Ysgol Dewi Sant. More than 300 people protested outside the meeting. In the end, the council decided to keep Ysgol Dewi Sant open. They did, however, decide to review the future of the sixth form (the part of the school for older students).
