Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth is a primary school in Aberystwyth, Wales. It teaches all subjects in the Welsh language. Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards started the school in 1939. It was a private school back then and was first called Ysgol Gymraeg yr Urdd. This school was the very first in Wales to teach completely in Welsh! Norah Isaac, a famous writer, was its first headteacher.

When the school first opened, only seven students attended. Since then, it has grown a lot. As of 2024, about 375 students go to the school.

Why Did the School Get Bigger?

The school grew quickly in the 1980s and 1990s. This happened because parents saw that learning in two languages (Welsh and English) was very helpful for their children's education.
