Yuji Hironaga (廣長 優志, Hironaga Yūji, born 25 July 1975) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder during his career.

Yuji Hironaga's Club Career
Yuji Hironaga was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, on July 25, 1975. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Verdy Kawasaki in 1994. This club later changed its name to Tokyo Verdy.
Playing for Verdy Kawasaki
When he first started, Hironaga played as a defensive midfielder or a center back. In 1994, his team, Verdy Kawasaki, had a fantastic year. They won both the J1 League championship and the J.League Cup. This was a great start to his professional career!
Moving to Gamba Osaka
Later, Hironaga moved to Gamba Osaka, which was his local club. He played in many matches for Gamba Osaka. He then returned to Verdy Kawasaki in June 1999. When he came back, he sometimes played as a forward, which is an attacking player, as well as a midfielder.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2001, Hironaga didn't get to play as much. So, he moved to Yokohama FC, a club in the J2 League. There, he played many games as a defensive midfielder. In 2003, he joined Cerezo Osaka. Yuji Hironaga decided to retire from playing professional football at the end of the 2004 season.
Yuji Hironaga's National Team Career
In July 1996, Yuji Hironaga was chosen to play for the Japan U-23 national team. This team competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics football tournament.
The "Miracle of Miami"
During the Olympics, Hironaga played in two matches as a defensive midfielder. Even though Japan won two of their games, they did not make it past the first round. One of Japan's wins was against the strong Brazil team in their very first game. This surprising victory was a huge moment for Japanese football. It became famous in Japan as the "Miracle of Miami."
