Yukihiko Sato (佐藤 由紀彦, Satō Yukihiko, born May 11, 1976) is a former Japanese football player. He is currently an assistant coach for the J1 League club FC Tokyo.

Yukihiko Sato's Football Journey

Yukihiko Sato was born in Fuji, Japan, on May 11, 1976. After finishing high school, he joined his hometown club, Shimizu S-Pulse, in 1995. He played as a midfielder, a player who helps both attack and defense.

Early Career and Rise to Fame

Sato didn't play much in his first few years at Shimizu S-Pulse. In 1998, he moved to Montedio Yamagata, a club in the Japan Football League. There, he became a regular player, meaning he played in most games. He even won the Rookie of the Year award for his great performance.

In 1999, Sato joined FC Tokyo, a team that had just moved up to the J2 League. He played as a right-side midfielder and helped the club get promoted to the top league, the J1 League, in 2000. He also won the New Hero Award in the 1999 J.League Cup, which is a special award for young players. He was a key player for FC Tokyo until 2001.

Winning Championships with Yokohama F. Marinos

In 2003, Sato moved to Yokohama F. Marinos. He played many games as a right-side midfielder. His team won the J1 League championship two years in a row, in 2003 and 2004. This was a big achievement for him and the club. However, by late 2004, he started playing less often.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2005, Sato returned to his first club, Shimizu S-Pulse. But he didn't play many matches there. In June 2006, he moved to Kashiwa Reysol, a J2 League club. He played a lot for them, and the team was promoted to the J1 League in 2007.

In 2008, he played for Vegalta Sendai in the J2 League for one season. In 2009, he joined V-Varen Nagasaki in the Japan Football League. He was a regular player there. In 2012, even though he played less, his team won the league and was promoted to the J2 League in 2013. Yukihiko Sato retired from playing football at the end of the 2014 season, when he was 38 years old.
