Yunus Akgün's Club Journey
Starting with Galatasaray
Yunus Akgün joined the Galatasaray youth academy in 2011. He worked hard and made his first professional appearance for Galatasaray in 2018. This was during the Turkish Super Cup match. On January 29, 2019, Yunus scored three goals in one game, which is called a hat-trick. This helped Galatasaray win a Turkish Cup match against Boluspor.
Playing for Adana Demirspor
Yunus Akgün was loaned to Adana Demirspor twice. The first time was in 2020, and he played well there. Because of his good performance, Adana Demirspor brought him back for another loan period on September 6, 2021.
Back at Galatasaray
After his loans, Yunus returned to Galatasaray. He became a champion with the team in the Süper Lig during the 2022–23 season. Galatasaray won their 23rd championship by defeating Ankaragücü 4–1 on May 30, 2023.
Time with Leicester City
On August 26, 2023, Yunus Akgün joined Leicester City in England on a loan for the 2023–24 season. He played his first game for them just three days later. On January 27, 2024, he scored his first goal for Leicester City in an FA Cup match against Birmingham City.
Strong Return to Galatasaray
After playing in UEFA Euro 2024, Yunus Akgün had a great start to the 2024–25 season with Galatasaray. By mid-October 2024, he had played 13 matches. He scored 5 goals and helped with 1 assist. Yunus showed he could play well on both sides of the field. He became a regular player in both the Süper Lig and Europa League games. This strong performance made him a very important player for Galatasaray.
Yunus Akgün's International Career
Yunus Akgün has played for Turkey's national youth teams. He represented the Turkey U17 team in important tournaments. These included the 2017 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Yunus made his first appearance for the senior Turkish national team on June 4, 2022. This was in a UEFA Nations League game against the Faroe Islands. Just three days later, on June 7, 2022, he scored his first goal for Turkey. This goal came in another UEFA Nations League match against Lithuania. He was also chosen to be part of Turkey's team for UEFA Euro 2024.
