Early Life and Music Journey
Yuya Matsushita was born in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, on May 24, 1990. He grew up with his mother and grandmother. When he was 12 years old in 2002, Yuya decided he wanted to be a musician. He joined the Caless Vocal & Dance School to learn more.
In October 2005, Yuya visited New York City. This trip made him even more determined to become an artist. He chose to focus on music instead of going to high school. In 2007, he met a producer named ja:Jin Nakamura. Jin Nakamura created the song "foolish foolish" for Yuya.
Starting His Career

In 2009, Yuya made his stage debut. He played Sebastian Michaelis in the Black Butler Musical. This musical was called That Butler, Friendship. A special solo version of the musical's theme song, "彼方へ," was later part of his third single.
Growing Popularity
In 2010, Yuya Matsushita's fourth single, "Trust Me," became popular. It was used as the first ending song for the Durarara!! anime series. This song reached number 10 on the weekly Oricon music charts. Another song from his fourth single, "ふたり," was used in the movie Toki o Kakeru Shōjo. Yuya also acted in this movie as Tetsuo Toi.
He played Sebastian Michaelis again in another Black Butler musical. The solo version of its theme song, "Hallucination," was on his fifth single, "YOU." Yuya also worked with Mahou No Island for three songs. These songs were "声にならなくて Feat. Sista," "first snow Feat. Sista," and "その時までのサヨナラ." All three songs were included in his first album, "I AM ME."
His song "Bird," from his sixth single, became the first ending song for the Black Butler II anime. The song "4 Seasons" was used for the Kobe Collection 2010 Autumn/Winter fashion show. It was also a theme song for Hikari, Sono Saki E, a movie where Yuya played himself.
