Yuzo Funakoshi (船越 優蔵, Funakoshi Yuzo, born June 12, 1977) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward.

Playing Career
Early Club Days
Yuzo Funakoshi was born in Kobe, Japan, on June 12, 1977. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey. In 1996, he joined Gamba Osaka, a well-known Japanese club.
Later in 1996, he moved to Europe for a short time. He played for Telstar, a club in the Netherlands, on a loan. A loan means he played for them temporarily before returning to his main team.
Moving Between Clubs
When he returned to Gamba Osaka in 1997, he didn't get to play much. Because of this, he decided to move to other teams to get more playing time.
- In 1999, he joined Bellmare Hiratsuka, which later became Shonan Bellmare.
- In 2001, he moved to Oita Trinita. Here, he played in many matches and showed his skills.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2002, Yuzo Funakoshi joined Albirex Niigata. He played a lot for them in 2002 and 2003. However, from 2004 onwards, he didn't play as often.
He then moved to Tokyo Verdy in 2007 and played there until 2009. His last club was SC Sagamihara in 2010. He decided to stop playing professional football at the end of the 2010 season.
National Team Experience
Playing for Japan U-17
Yuzo Funakoshi also represented his country at a young age. In August 1993, he was chosen to play for the Japan U-17 national team. This team played in the 1993 U-17 World Championship. This is a big tournament for young players from all over the world.
He played in all four matches during the tournament. He even scored a goal against the Mexico team. This was a great achievement for him as a young player.
