Yvette Renee Simpson (born August 2, 1978) is an American politician and lawyer. She used to be a member of the Cincinnati City Council. She also led a group called Democracy for America.

Learning and Degrees
Yvette Simpson went to several universities to get her education. She earned a bachelor's degree from Miami University. This is usually the first degree you get after high school. She also earned a special law degree called a J.D. from the University of Cincinnati. This degree allows someone to become a lawyer. Later, she earned a business degree, an M.B.A., from Xavier University.
Helping Lead Cincinnati
In 2011, Yvette Simpson became a member of the Cincinnati City Council. The City Council is a group of people who help make important decisions and rules for the city. When she joined, it was a special moment because it meant that for the first time, most of the council members were African-American.
Running for Mayor
In 2017, Yvette Simpson ran for mayor of Cincinnati. The mayor is the main leader of the city. She was trying to win against the person who was already mayor, John Cranley.
During the first round of voting, called the primary election, Yvette Simpson received more votes than her opponents. She got 45% of the votes, while John Cranley got 35%. However, in the final election, she did not win. John Cranley won with about 54% of the votes, and Yvette Simpson received about 46%.
Leading a National Group
On January 1, 2019, Yvette Simpson became the chief executive of Democracy for America. This group works to help people get involved in politics and make changes in the country. It was started by a former presidential candidate, Howard Dean. Yvette Simpson was the first woman to lead this group. She announced that she would leave her position in 2022. She officially resigned from the group on December 7, 2022, when the organization was facing financial challenges.
