Zagnut is a unique candy bar sold in the United States. It's known for its special mix of creamy peanut butter and crunchy, toasted coconut. Unlike many candy bars, it doesn't have a chocolate coating.

The Story of Zagnut

How Zagnut Began

The Zagnut candy bar first appeared in 1930. It was created by the D. L. Clark Company. This company was located in western Pennsylvania. They also made the famous Clark bar.

Changes in Ownership

Over the years, Zagnut changed owners a few times. The D. L. Clark Company later became the Pittsburgh Food & Beverage Company. In 1983, a company called Leaf International bought them. Then, in 1996, the Zagnut brand became part of Hershey Foods Corporation. Today, it is still produced by The Hershey Company.

What People Think of Zagnut

People have different opinions about Zagnut. A food magazine called Bon Appétit once wrote about old-fashioned candies. They said they were surprised Zagnuts weren't more popular. On the other hand, a writer for The Des Moines Register newspaper had a different view. They felt Zagnut wasn't a candy many people would choose first. This shows that Zagnut is a candy with a very distinct taste!
