How Zamzam Started
Zamzam started in Iran in 1954. Back then, it was part of a famous American company called Pepsi. It was the very first company in Iran to make bubbly soft drinks. A person named Habib Sabet owned the company at that time.
Changes After the Revolution
In 1979, a big event happened in Iran called the Islamic Revolution. After the revolution, the company was taken from its original owner. The government took control of it without paying him for it. That's when the name was changed from its original name to Zamzam.
Zamzam and the Hajj Pilgrimage
In 2002, many people in Saudi Arabia decided not to buy Coca-Cola drinks. This was part of a protest or "boycott." After this, Zamzam became very popular, especially among people going on the Hajj. The Hajj is a very important religious journey for Muslims to the city of Mecca.
The name "Zamzam" comes from a special place in Mecca called the Zamzam Well. This well is a very important stop for people on the Hajj pilgrimage. Because of its name, many people saw Zamzam cola as a good choice during their religious journey.
