Zanesville is a small, unincorporated community located in Montgomery County, Illinois, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
Zanesville is about 7 kilometers (or 4.4 miles) west of a nearby town called Raymond.
This community was first settled around the year 1828. It was originally named Leesburg. This name came from Robert E. Lee, who was a merchant friend of the community's founder, George Brewer. Later, settlers who came from a place called Zanesville, Ohio decided to change the name to Zanesville.
A post office opened in the community on June 26, 1838. At first, it was called Hamlet, but its name was changed to Zanesville in 1839.
