Zara "Zadie" DuPont (1869–1946) was an important American suffragist. A suffragist was someone who worked to get women the right to vote. Zara DuPont was the first Vice President of the Ohio Woman Suffrage Association.

Early Life and Activism

Zara DuPont was born on February 24, 1869, in Louisville, Kentucky. When she was a young woman, she joined the board of the Children's Free Hospital in Louisville. This shows her early interest in helping others.

Fighting for Women's Vote

Later, Zara DuPont moved to Ohio. There, she became very active in the suffrage movement. This movement worked to give women the right to vote in elections.

In 1910, she tried to get women's suffrage added to the new constitution of Ohio. Even though it didn't pass that time, she kept working hard. In 1911, she joined the Cuyahoga Woman's Suffrage Association. She then became the first Vice President of the Ohio Woman Suffrage Association. She worked with other important leaders like Florence E. Allen and Maud Wood Park to organize events across Ohio.

Working for Workers' Rights

Zara DuPont was also a champion for civil rights and fair treatment for workers. She was a "pro-labor shareholder activist." This means she owned shares in big companies like Bethlehem Steel and Montgomery Ward. She used her position as a shareholder to push for better conditions and rights for the workers.

Family Connections

Zara DuPont was part of the well-known Du Pont family. Her brother was T. Coleman du Pont, and her niece was Ethel du Pont.

Zara DuPont passed away in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on May 13, 1946, at the age of 77. She left behind a legacy of fighting for equality and justice.
