The Zayyanids (also known as the Abd al-Wadids or Banu Zayan) were a powerful family, or dynasty, that ruled a large part of North Africa for over 300 years. They were a Berber group from the Zenata tribe. Their main city and capital was Tlemcen, which is in modern-day Algeria. The Zayyanid dynasty existed from 1235 until 1556.
