Zdeňka Vávrová facts for kids
Zdeňka Vávrová (born 1945) is a famous Czech astronomer. She is known for finding many objects in space.
She helped discover a special comet called 134P/Kowal-Vávrová. At first, she saw it as an asteroid, which is a rocky object in space. It was given the temporary name 1983 JG. She didn't see the fuzzy cloud, called a coma, that usually surrounds a comet. But later, another astronomer named Charles T. Kowal took pictures that showed the coma. This proved it was a comet!
The Minor Planet Center says she has discovered 115 numbered minor planets. These are small objects in our solar system, like asteroids.
An Asteroid Named After Her
An asteroid was named 3364 Zdenka in her honor. This asteroid is in the main asteroid belt and belongs to the Flora family. It was found by Antonín Mrkos in 1984.
The asteroid was named "Zdenka" because she had worked for 20 years at the Kleť Observatory. She helped study the positions and movements of minor planets there.
