Zeballos Inlet facts for kids
Zeballos Inlet is a long, narrow arm of the sea, like a fjord, located on the northern part of Vancouver Island in Canada. It stretches inland from Esperanza Inlet, but it is still connected to the vast Pacific Ocean. At the very end of the inlet, you'll find the Zeballos River and the small village of Zeballos. This village first started as a place where people mined for gold.
How Zeballos Inlet Got Its Name
The name "Zeballos Inlet" comes from a Spanish explorer. In 1791, a lieutenant named Ciriaco Ceballos explored this area. He was part of a crew led by Alessandro Malaspina. The inlet was named in honor of Lieutenant Ceballos. You might see his name spelled in different ways, like Ceballos or Cevallos, but they all refer to the same person.
Exploring Zeballos Village
The village of Zeballos is located right at the head of the inlet. It was founded a long time ago because people discovered gold nearby. This made it an important place for mining. Today, Zeballos is a small community known for its beautiful natural surroundings and outdoor activities.
