What Was Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle?
Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle was a "municipality." A municipality is like a town or a group of towns that have their own local government. This area was home to over 10,000 people. It covered about 31 square kilometers. Most of this land was dry, but some was water.
How It Was Formed
This municipality was created on January 1, 1991. It was formed when two smaller places, Moerkapelle and Zevenhuizen, joined together. At first, it had a different name: Moerhuizen. But on February 1, 1992, it was officially renamed Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle.
Becoming Part of Zuidplas
On January 1, 2010, Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle stopped being its own municipality. It became part of a new, larger municipality called Zuidplas. This happens sometimes when smaller areas combine to form bigger ones.
Towns and Villages
Even though it was one municipality, Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle included a few different population centers. These were:
- Moerkapelle
- Oud Verlaat
- Zevenhuizen
The Rotte River
The Rotte river is an important waterway in this region. It actually starts within the area that used to be the municipality of Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle, which is now part of Zuidplas.
