Zhang Wei (simplified Chinese: 张炜; traditional Chinese: 張煒; pinyin: Zhāng Wěi) is a famous Chinese author. He was born on November 7, 1956, in Longkou, Yantai, China. This area is in the northern part of the Shandong Peninsula.
Zhang Wei studied Chinese at Yantai Normal College. He finished his studies in 1980. A few years later, he joined the China Writers Association. This is an important group for writers in China. He even helped lead the group in his home area of Shandong.
He is very well-known for his novels. Two of his most famous books are The Ancient Ship and September's Fable. In 2011, Zhang Wei won a big award called the Mao Dun Literature Prize. This is one of the highest writing awards in China. He won it for his huge book series, On the Plateau. This series has 10 books and took him ten years to write!
