When five men were found guilty in connection with her father's death, she said it was "not a full investigation, but an imitation."
In August 2015, Zhanna began working as a reporter for Deutsche Welle. This is a German international news organization, and she worked in their Russian department in Bonn, Germany.

Boris Nemtsov Plaza
On December 6, 2017, Zhanna Nemtsova traveled from Germany to Washington, D.C. She was with other family members and Russian activists. They wanted the city council of Washington, D.C., to rename a part of the street in front of the Russian Embassy. They suggested calling it "Boris Nemtsov Plaza."
This renaming would honor her father. It would also send a message to Russian authorities about the United States' disapproval of their policies. The Council chairman, Phil Mendelson, supported the idea. On January 9, 2018, the Council officially approved the renaming. The change became effective on May 5, 2018.
