The Zhaocheng Jin Tripitaka is a very old and important collection of Buddhist books. It was made in China during a time called the Jin Dynasty. This huge set of books is written in the Chinese language.

What is the Zhaocheng Jin Tripitaka?

This special collection of Buddhist writings was first known as the Jin Tripitaka. It was created around the year 1149. This happened at a place called the Tianning Temple.

How it was Made

A kind woman named Cui Fazhen and her friends helped pay for this massive project. They wanted to make sure these important teachings were written down.

Where it was Found

Later, a famous leader named Kublai Khan moved the books. He took them to the Guangsheng Temple. The books were found there much later, in 1933. The collection was then renamed the Zhaocheng Jin Tripitaka. This new name came from the area where the Guangsheng Temple is located, which is called Zhaocheng.

Why is it Important?

The Zhaocheng Jin Tripitaka is a very big book. It has about 7,000 chapters! It was the largest book ever published during the Jin Dynasty.

Unique Sections

What makes it even more special is that it contains some parts. These sections are not found in other copies of the Buddhist canon made later. This makes the Zhaocheng Jin Tripitaka a unique and valuable historical record.
