Jin dynasty facts for kids
The Jin dynasty (1115–1234) was a powerful empire in China. It was also known as the Jurchen dynasty or the Great Jin. This dynasty existed just before the Mongols started their huge invasions across Asia. The Jin dynasty was one of the last major powers in China before the Mongols took over.
The Jin dynasty was started by the Wanyan family, who belonged to the Jurchens. These Jurchens lived in northern Manchuria. They were the ancestors of the Manchu people, who would later create the Qing dynasty about 500 years later. The person who founded the Jin dynasty was Wanyan Aguda.
The name of this dynasty is sometimes written as Jinn. This helps people tell it apart from an earlier Jin dynasty (265-420) in China. Both dynasties have names that sound the same when written in the Roman alphabet.
