Zheng Zhengqiu (Chinese: 鄭正秋; January 25, 1889 – July 16, 1935) was a very important Chinese filmmaker. Many people call him a "founding father" of Chinese cinema. He helped start the film industry in China.

Who Was Zheng Zhengqiu?
Zheng Zhengqiu was born in Shanghai, China, in 1889. When he was young, he was a smart person who loved the theater. He worked with his friend and colleague, Zhang Shichuan. Together, they made the very first Chinese feature film. This short movie was called The Difficult Couple and came out in 1913.
Starting a Film Company
Zheng Zhengqiu and Zhang Shichuan worked together again in 1922. They started a very important company called Mingxing Film Company. This company became a big part of Shanghai's film industry for the next fifteen years. One of their oldest movies that still exists today is Laborer's Love.
Zheng Zhengqiu's Work in Film
At Mingxing, Zheng Zhengqiu did many jobs. He wrote movie scripts as a screenwriter. He also directed films and managed the studio. He even worked as a producer. Before he passed away in 1935, he personally wrote and directed 53 movies!
Like many people working in film at that time, Zheng cared a lot about making society better. He wanted things to be fair for everyone. These ideas were often shown in the stories of his movies.
