Zhu Chengliang (pronounced Joo Chung-lee-ang) is a famous Chinese author and artist who creates amazing books for children. He often uses old Chinese painting styles in his beautiful illustrations.

About Zhu Chengliang

Zhu Chengliang was born in Shanghai, a big city in China, in 1948. He grew up in another city called Suzhou. He went to Nanjing University to study art. After finishing school, he worked as a writer, an artist, an editor (someone who checks and prepares books), and a designer. Today, he helps lead a publishing company called Jiangsu Fine Arts Publishing House as their Deputy Chief Editor.

His Amazing Awards

Zhu Chengliang has won many special awards for his books:

  • His book Grandpa's Tinderbox was chosen for the IBBY Honour List in 2014. This means it was recognized as a great book worldwide.
  • A New Year's Reunion (the Chinese version) won first prize at the Feng Zikai Children's Book Award in 2010.
  • The English version of A New Year's Reunion was named one of the "Ten Best Illustrated Books" by the New York Times in 2011.
  • The Sparkling Rabbit-Shaped Lamp was a runner-up in a big art contest called the 4th UNESCO Noma Concours for Picture Book Illustrations in 1984.
