Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Zoboomafoo was a super fun American TV show for kids that taught them all about amazing animals! It first aired on PBS Kids on January 25, 1999, and ran until June 7, 2001. The show was created by brothers Martin Kratt and Chris Kratt, who also hosted it. They helped kids explore the animal kingdom in a really exciting way.

Discovering Animals with Zoboomafoo

The show took place in a special place called Animal Junction. This was a magical, colorful clubhouse where animals from all over the world could visit. Every episode, a new animal would arrive, and the Kratt brothers, along with their lemur friend Zoboomafoo, would learn all about it.

Meet the Stars

The main characters of Zoboomafoo were:

  • Zoboomafoo (Zoboo): A playful Coquerel's sifaka lemur. He was played by a puppet and sometimes by a real lemur named Jovian, or even with computer animation! Zoboo could talk and loved to jump, swing, and play. He was always curious about the new animals that came to Animal Junction.
  • Martin Kratt: One of the human hosts, known for his adventurous spirit and love for animals. He often helped explain animal facts in a fun way.
  • Chris Kratt: The other human host, also very passionate about wildlife. He and Martin would often go on "creature adventures" to find out more about animals in their natural homes.

What You Learned

Each episode focused on a different animal or a group of animals. Kids learned about:

  • What animals eat
  • Where they live
  • How they move
  • Their unique behaviors and sounds
  • How to protect animals and their habitats

The show used a mix of live-action footage of real animals, animation, and puppetry to make learning exciting. It was a great way for young viewers to connect with nature and understand the importance of wildlife.

  • An Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Series.
