Zoe Laskari (Greek: Ζωή Λάσκαρη; 12 December 1942 – 18 August 2017) was a famous Greek film and stage actress. She became very popular in Greece during the 1960s and 1970s. She starred in many successful movies and plays.
Early Life and Beauty Pageant
Zoe Laskari was born Zoe Kouroukli in Thessaloniki, Greece. Her birthday was on 12 December 1942. She grew up with her grandparents.
In 1959, Zoe won the title of Star Hellas, which means Miss Greece. To enter the contest, she made herself seem two years older than she was. After winning, she went to the Miss Universe pageant in California, USA. She even made it to the semifinals there!
However, while in the United States, it was found out that she was still legally a minor. This means she was younger than the official age for adults. She decided to stay in New York City for about 18 months before returning to Greece.
Family Life
Zoe Laskari was married twice. In 1967, she married Petros Koutoumanos. They had a daughter named Martha Koutoumanou. Their marriage ended in 1971.
Later, in 1976, she married Alexandros Lykourezos. With him, she had her second daughter, Maria-Eleni Lykourezou.
Acting Career
Zoe Laskari's success at the beauty pageant helped her start her acting career. A director named Giannis Dalianidis offered her a main role in his 1961 film, O katiforos. This movie was a big hit and made her very popular quickly.
Soon after, she signed a special contract with Finos Film. This was the biggest film company in Greece at that time. She acted in many different types of movies. These included dramas, comedies, and even musicals.
Some of her well-known films include Stefania (1966) and Oi Thalassies oi Hadres (1967). Other popular movies she starred in were Nomos 4000, Merikoi to protimoun kryo, and Koritsia gia filima.
Zoe Laskari also had a successful career on stage. She performed in famous plays like Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and the ancient Greek play The Trojan Women. Her first play in Athens was called Oi erastes tou Oneirou. In 1976, she also appeared on television for the first time in the TV series Romaios kai Ioulieta.
Later Years
Zoe Laskari passed away on 18 August 2017. She died in Porto Rafti, Greece, due to heart failure. She is remembered as one of Greece's most beloved actresses.
