Çaykur is a big company in Turkey that makes tea. It is owned by the Turkish government. Çaykur makes many kinds of tea, like iced tea, green tea, organic tea, and black tea.

The company has 45 factories where they process tea leaves. They also have one factory just for packaging the tea. The current general manager of Çaykur is Yusuf Ziya Alim.

How Tea Started in Turkey

The government of Turkey has always supported tea production. The very first tea crop was picked in Turkey in 1938. A few years later, in 1947, the first tea factory was built.

By 1963, Turkey was producing enough tea for its own people. This meant they no longer needed to buy tea from other countries. In the early days, different government groups helped manage tea production.

Çaykur Today

Çaykur was officially founded in 1983. It became the main company for tea production in Turkey.

In 2017, something important happened. The Turkish government decided to transfer its ownership of Çaykur. All the government's shares in the company were given to the Turkey Wealth Fund. This fund helps manage important companies for the country.

Çaykur and Sports

Çaykur also supports sports! The company is a sponsor of a football club called Çaykur Rizespor. This team is from the city of Rize, which is a big tea-growing area in Turkey.
