The ÖFB Frauen Cup is a big yearly football competition for women's teams in Austria. It's also known as the SPORTLAND Frauen Cup because of its sponsor. This exciting tournament has been happening every year since the 1972–73 season. The ÖFB, which is the Austrian Football Association, organizes the whole event.
How the Tournament Works
The ÖFB Frauen Cup is played over five exciting rounds. A total of 32 teams get to join the competition. These teams include 10 from the top women's league, the ÖFB Frauen Bundesliga. The other 22 teams come from local football groups across Austria.
In the first round, teams are matched up based on where they are located. This helps keep travel easy at the start. After the first round, any team can play against any other team. Also, teams from the top league cannot play against each other in the very first round. This makes sure the competition is fair and exciting for everyone involved.
