Útica is a cool town and a municipality in the Cundinamarca Department of Colombia. It's about 127 kilometers (around 79 miles) away from Bogotá, the capital city. This town sits at an elevation of 506 meters (about 1,660 feet) above sea level. It enjoys a warm average daily temperature of 26 °C (79 °F).

Útica started as a small community where people mostly fished. Two rivers, the Rio Negro and the Quebradanegra, flow through the area. Because of these rivers, Útica can sometimes experience floods. Heavy rains high up in the Andes mountains can make the rivers overflow their banks. One very big flood even washed away the town's bridge and uncovered some old graves from the cemetery.

Today, Útica is a popular place for vacations. It's especially known for exciting extreme sports like rafting (riding down rivers in a raft) and abseiling (climbing down cliffs using ropes).

History of Útica

People say that Útica was founded around the year 1802 by a person named Manuel Murillo Toro. He was traveling and liked the area so much that he decided to build a house there. This original building is still standing today. It used to be a railway station in a place called Curapo, but it's not used as a station anymore.
