Story of the Night
Nick's Big Problem
The movie starts with Nick Wrigley (Bryan Cranston), a man who has gotten into some trouble. People who are after him because of a computer problem, named Bill (Jeff Geddis) and Harry (Sandy Robson), find his apartment. They tell him they want their money back by Christmas. If they don't get it, their tough friend Eliot (Jung-Yul Kim) will deal with him. Nick decides to run away. As he leaves, Eliot sees him and chases him. Nick escapes by hiding in a Santa Claus costume at a North Pole stage. He then takes a bus to his brother's house.
Danny and His Uncle
At his brother's house, Nick is welcomed by his 14-year-old nephew, Danny Wrigley (Josh Zuckerman). Danny likes his uncle a lot. Danny's dad (Barclay Hope) isn't too happy to see Nick, but his mom (Torri Higginson) is more welcoming. Danny's parents, who are both doctors, get called to the hospital. They have to leave Nick in charge of their three kids. Nick gets a threatening email from Bill and Harry, who are still trying to find him. To throw them off his trail, Nick uses a computer trick.
A Magical Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve, something amazing happens! The real Santa Claus comes to the house. He has a special device that can stop time. This helps him put presents under the tree without anyone seeing him. But then, something hits the device, and time goes back to normal. Nick accidentally knocks Santa out! Danny and Nick decide to deliver Santa's presents themselves. While Nick is delivering gifts, he secretly takes things from the houses. When Danny finds out Nick is stealing, he feels very upset. He takes Santa's sleigh and goes back home.
Santa's Dilemma and Nick's Choice
Meanwhile, Danny's younger siblings, Kaitlyn (Brenda Grate) and Peter (Rhys Williams), find the real Santa (Jefferson Mappin) unconscious. He wakes up and convinces them he is Santa. They soon realize that Danny and Nick have taken the sleigh and presents. Santa says Danny will be on the naughty list forever!
When Danny returns, he says sorry to Santa. But now, the sleigh is broken. Nick is sitting at a bus stop when he sees Bill, Harry, and Eliot. They don't recognize him in the Santa costume. They ask him for his brother's address. Nick doesn't answer, and they drive off. Nick then realizes they are going to his brother's house, which means his family is in danger!
Nick still has Santa's time-freezing device. He races back to the house and gets there just in time. He saves his family from the men by using the device to shrink Eliot! This makes Bill, Harry, and Eliot drive away in fear. Nick gives the device back to Santa. He also gives Santa his favorite laptop to help fix the sleigh and save Christmas.
A Christmas Gift
The next morning, Nick wakes up. He sees that Santa has given him a guitar! It's the guitar he always wanted as a child but never got because he was on the naughty list. Nick agrees to sell the guitar to pay off his debts. But first, he plays it for his family, making everyone happy.
