Playing Career Highlights
Álex García was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. He joined FC Barcelona's youth football program when he was 14 years old. He played for their reserve team, FC Barcelona B, for two full seasons in the Segunda División. This is the second-highest football league in Spain.
Time with FC Barcelona's Main Team
During the 1990–91 football season, García played three matches for Barcelona's main team. He played in both games of the 1990 Supercopa de España against Real Madrid. He also played in a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup match against FC Dynamo Kyiv. In that game, he came on as a substitute for Michael Laudrup.
Playing for Other Clubs
After leaving Barcelona in 1993, Álex García continued his career with other clubs. He played for Rayo Vallecano and Palamós CF. With both clubs, his team was moved down to a lower league. His time with Rayo Vallecano in 1993–94 was his only experience playing in Spain's top league, La Liga.
Álex García played until he was 31 years old, retiring in 2001. Before he retired, he spent five seasons playing in the Segunda División B. This league is the third level of Spanish football. He played for teams like Cádiz CF, Granada CF, and Gimnàstic de Tarragona. For his final year as a player, he returned to his home region to play for an amateur team called UE Cornellà.
Coaching and Management Career
Right after he stopped playing football, Álex García started working as a manager. His first job was coaching youth teams at FC Barcelona.
Managing Dinamo Tbilisi
In June 2011, Álex García was hired to manage FC Dinamo Tbilisi. This is a football club in Georgia. He took over from the previous manager, Kakha Kacharava. However, in January 2012, the club decided to let García go. This happened after his team lost a friendly match against BSC Young Boys.
Returning to Barcelona and Sabadell
After leaving Dinamo Tbilisi, García went back to Camp Nou, Barcelona's stadium. He worked as a scout for Barcelona's first team. His job was to find new talented players. He worked under managers Tito Vilanova and Gerardo Martino.
On November 24, 2014, García signed a contract to manage CE Sabadell FC. He was supposed to stay until the end of the season. But in February of the next year, he resigned. This was after his team won only one out of nine matches in the second-tier league.
