Playing Football
Álex García was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. He joined FC Barcelona's youth football system when he was 14 years old. This is where young players learn and train to become professionals.
Early Years at Barcelona
García played two full seasons for Barcelona's reserve team. This team plays in the Segunda División, which is the second-highest football league in Spain. He also played one game in this league during the 1988–89 season.
In the 1990–91 season, García played three matches for Barcelona's main team, known as the Blaugrana. He played in both games of the Supercopa de España against Real Madrid. He also played in a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup match against FC Dynamo Kyiv. In that game, he came on as a substitute for Michael Laudrup.
Playing for Other Teams
After leaving Barcelona in 1993, Álex García played for Rayo Vallecano and Palamós CF. He played for Rayo Vallecano in La Liga during the 1993–94 season. This was his only time playing in Spain's top football league. Unfortunately, his teams were relegated (moved down to a lower league) with both clubs.
García continued playing until he retired in 2001 at age 31. For five seasons, he played in the Segunda División B. This is the third level of Spanish football. During this time, he played for Cádiz CF, Granada CF, and Gimnàstic de Tarragona. For his final year, he returned to his home region and played for an amateur team called UE Cornellà.
Becoming a Coach
Right after he stopped playing football, Álex García started working as a manager. His first job was coaching youth teams at Barcelona. In June 2011, he became the manager of FC Dinamo Tbilisi in Georgia.
In January 2012, the club decided to let García go after they lost a friendly game. He then went back to Camp Nou, Barcelona's stadium. There, he worked as a scout for the first team. A scout finds new players for the team.
On November 24, 2014, García signed a contract to manage CE Sabadell FC until the end of the season. This team played in the Segunda División. However, in February, he resigned because the team had only won one game out of nine.
In June 2020, García returned to Barcelona again as the head scout. About a year later, he left the club. On January 24, 2022, he became an assistant manager for UD Las Palmas, working with García Pimienta.
