Ángel Martínez Casado (born in Retuerto, León Province, Spain, 1947 – died in Virgen del Camino, León Province, Spain, March 13, 2024) was a Dominican friar. He was also a PhD (doctor) in both History and Theology.

He received his early education at La Virgen del Camino College. In October 1965, he joined the Dominican Order in Palencia. He continued his religious studies in Las Caldas de Besaya and Salamanca. He made his solemn religious promise in 1973.

His Work and Teaching Career

Ángel Martínez Casado became a priest on March 30, 1975. His doctoral thesis, a big research project, was about a person named Lope de Barrientos. This work was later published as a book.

From 1976, he taught the history of philosophy at the Higher Institute of Philosophy of Valladolid. This institute is part of the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He later became the director of this institute. While teaching, he also studied history and earned another doctorate in Philosophy and Letters in 1984.

He also taught at the Faculty of Theology of Valencia Catholic University Saint Vincent. From 1996, he was a professor of Church History at the Faculty of the Convent of St. Stephen and the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He also taught special courses at the Faculty of Philosophy at the same university.

Besides teaching, he was the Librarian of the Convent of St. Stephen. He was also the Technical Director of an online theology school called "Santo Tomás de Aquino."

In 2008, he became a Corresponding Member of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain. This is an honor given to important scholars. He also helped with the process to make Mother Teresa Maria de Jesus Ortega Pardo a saint. She was a former prioress (leader) of the Olmedo Monastery. This process finished in 2006.

He held other important roles within the Dominican Order. These included being a subprior (assistant leader) of the convent. He also directed and edited a magazine called "Estudios Filosóficos" from 1985 to 1990. He was an archivist and a member of a special group for intellectual life. He was also the permanent director of the Higher Institute of Philosophy.

Due to an illness he had for many years, he moved to an infirmary in Leon in February 2020. He passed away there on March 13, 2024, at the age of 76.
