Ángel Martínez Casado was a Dominican friar and a very smart person who earned special degrees in History and Theology. He was born in Retuerto, León Province, Spain, in 1947. He passed away in Virgen del Camino, also in León Province, on March 13, 2024, at the age of 76.
He studied at La Virgen del Camino College. In October 1965, he joined the Dominican Order, which is a group of religious people. He continued his studies in different places like Las Caldas de Besaya and Salamanca. In 1973, he made his final promises to the Dominican Order.
His Work and Teaching Career
Ángel Martínez Casado became a priest on March 30, 1975. He earned his doctorate degree in History in 1984. His special research for this degree was about a person named Lope de Barrientos. This research was later published as a book.
From 1976, he taught about the history of philosophy at the Higher Institute of Philosophy of Valladolid. This institute is part of the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He even became the director of this institute.
He also taught Church History at the Convent of St. Stephen, Salamanca and the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He shared his knowledge with many students over the years.
Other Important Roles
In 2008, Ángel Martínez Casado was recognized as a special member of the Liste of Members of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain. This is a big honor for very knowledgeable people.
He also helped with the process of making Mother Teresa Maria de Jesus Ortega Pardo a saint. He was involved in the church court that looked into her life.
Besides teaching, he had many other important jobs. He was a librarian at the Convent of St. Stephen, Salamanca. He also directed an online school for theology. He was in charge of a magazine called "Estudios Filosóficos" for several years.
In February 2020, because of an illness, he moved to a special care center in León. He lived there until he passed away in March 2024.
