History of the World's Longest Yard Sale
The idea for this amazing sale came from Mike Walker. He was a county executive in Fentress County, Tennessee. The first sale happened in 1987.
When it started, the sale followed US 127. It stretched from Covington, Kentucky, all the way to Chattanooga, Tennessee. That's a long way!
How the Sale Grew Longer
A few years later, the sale got even bigger. The Lookout Mountain Parkway was added to the route. This extended the sale south from Chattanooga. It went through parts of Georgia and Alabama. The sale then reached Gadsden, Alabama.
In 2006, the sale grew northward too. It went from Covington, Kentucky, through Ohio. It even reached the border of Michigan. Major stops were made around Bryan, Ohio.
The sale kept getting longer! In 2010, it stretched further north to Hudson, Michigan. By 2012, it was extended again. It reached about five miles (8.0 km) north of Addison, Michigan. This made the total length of the sale about 690 miles (1,110 km). That's like driving across many states!
The Sale in Media
