1450 Brickell is a very tall office building, known as a skyscraper, in Miami, Florida, United States. It stands 540 feet (165 meters) high and has 35 floors. This building is right next to One Broadway in the southern part of Downtown Miami's Brickell Financial District. You can find it at the corner of Brickell Avenue and Broadway.
The company that designed the building is Nichols, Brosch, Wurst, Wolfe & Associates, Inc. Inside, there is more than 580,000 square feet (53,884 square meters) of office space. 1450 Brickell is one of the many new office buildings that have opened in Downtown Miami.
Being Green: Energy Efficiency
1450 Brickell was the first office building in Miami to earn a LEED Gold certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It's a special rating system that shows how environmentally friendly a building is. A LEED Gold rating means the building was designed and built to save energy and water. It also uses materials that are good for the environment.
A company called Hill York helped make the building energy efficient. They installed a system called utiliVisor. This system constantly checks the building's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. It makes sure they are always working as efficiently as possible. This helps the building use less energy.
Strong Against Storms: Hurricane Resistance
When 1450 Brickell was finished, it had the strongest window system of any commercial building in the country. The entire glass outer wall, called a curtainwall, is designed to withstand strong hurricane impacts. This means it can resist large objects flying through the air during a storm.
Even though Miami-Dade County only requires the first 30 feet (9 meters) of a building's glass to be hurricane-resistant, 1450 Brickell's entire 35-story glass wall was built to be super strong. DeSimone Consulting Engineers was the company in charge of making sure the building's structure was safe and strong.
