About the Cricket World Cup
The Cricket World Cup is one of the biggest sports events in the world. It happens every four years. Teams from different countries play against each other to find out who is the best in One Day International (ODI) cricket. ODI matches are played over one day, with each team batting for a set number of overs.
Where the Games Happened
The 2003 World Cup was special because it was the first time it came to Africa. Most of the games were played in South Africa. Some matches were also held in Zimbabwe and Kenya. This helped to bring the sport to more people in these regions.
How the Tournament Worked
Fourteen teams from around the world took part in the 2003 World Cup. The tournament had two main parts. First, there was a "round-robin" stage. This meant that teams played against each other in groups. The best teams from these groups then moved on to the "knockout" stage. In the knockout stage, if a team lost a match, they were out of the tournament. This made every game very important! In total, 54 matches were played.
The Big Winners
The final match was played between Australia and India. Australia played really well and won the trophy. This was their third time winning the Cricket World Cup, showing how strong their team was.
Many players showed amazing skills during the tournament. Sachin Tendulkar from India was named the "Player of the Series." This award goes to the player who performs best throughout the whole tournament. He also scored the most runs, with a total of 673 runs. Chaminda Vaas from Sri Lanka took the most wickets, getting 23 players out.
