The 2011 Sindh floods were a big natural disaster that happened in Pakistan. They started in the middle of August 2011. Heavy rains caused these floods in areas like Sindh, Eastern Balochistan, and Southern Punjab.

These floods caused a lot of harm. About 270 people sadly lost their lives. More than 5.3 million people were affected by the floods. About 1.2 million homes were completely flooded. The floods also ruined a huge amount of farmland. At least 1.7 million acres of land were damaged. These floods were the worst in Pakistan since the big floods in 2010.

What Caused the 2011 Sindh Floods?

In July, Pakistan did not get much rain from the monsoon season. However, in August and September, the country received much more rain than usual. A strong weather system moved into the Sindh area. It came from the Indian states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

This weather system grew stronger over time. It caused very heavy rainfall for four weeks straight. These continuous rains led to floods in Sindh that had never been seen before. The amount of water was immense and overwhelmed the land.
