Añasco barrio-pueblo is like the main downtown area of Añasco, a town in Puerto Rico. It's the central spot where the town's government buildings are located. In 2010, about 912 people lived here.

In Puerto Rico, just like in Spain, many towns have a special area called a pueblo or barrio-pueblo. This area usually has a big central square, called a plaza. You'll also find the town hall and a Catholic church there. These plazas are super important! They are places where people gather, relax, and celebrate.

The Central Plaza and Its Church

The central plaza, or town square, is a place for fun events and where people can meet up. It's busy from morning until night. Old Spanish laws, called the Laws of the Indies, said that plazas should be big enough for parties and celebrations. These laws also said that nearby streets should have covered walkways. These walkways would protect people from the sun and rain.

Every year, special festivals called Fiestas patronales are held in the central plaza. These festivals celebrate the town's patron saint.

Right across from the central plaza in Añasco barrio-pueblo is a Roman Catholic church. It's called Parroquia Nuestra San Antonio Abad. This church opened in 1919. The very first church on this spot was built a long time ago, in the early 1700s.

Sectors: Smaller Areas of the Barrio

Barrios are like big neighborhoods. They are divided into even smaller local areas called sectores, which means sectors in English. These sectors can have different names. Some are simply called sector. Others might be called urbanización, reparto, barriada, or residencial.

Here are some of the sectors you can find in Añasco barrio-pueblo:

  • Casco del Pueblo
  • Edificio Diego Salcedo
  • Edificio Francis Villages Elderly
