The APF Microcomputer System was a cool home video game console from the past! It came out in October 1978. This console was made by APF Electronics Inc. and used game cartridges. It was part of the "second generation" of video game consoles.

People often called it the M-1000 or MP-1000. These were its two model numbers. A fun fact is that the game Rocket Patrol was already built into the console! The APF-MP1000 was also a part of a bigger system called the APF Imagination Machine. A smart engineer named Ed Smith helped create both of these systems.

This console was the next step after the APF TV Fun consoles. Those were from the "first generation" of video games.

What Made It Work?

The APF Microcomputer System had some interesting parts inside. It was the only second-generation console that used a special computer chip called the Motorola 6800 processor.

  • CPU (Brain): It used a Motorola 6800 chip. This chip was an 8-bit processor. It ran at a speed of 0.895 MHz.
  • RAM (Memory): It had 1 KB of RAM. This is a very small amount compared to today's computers!
  • Graphics: The console could show 8 different colors. It had a screen resolution of 256x192 pixels.
  • Power: It needed 7.5 volts of AC power or 12 volts of DC power to run.

Games You Could Play

The APF-MP1000 had a variety of games available on cartridges. Some games even came with more than one game on a single cartridge!
