Club History
How Biellese Started
The club started a long time ago, in 1902, and was first known as U.S. Biellese. The 1920s were a great time for the team. They won the Second Division and moved up to the National Division. This league was like the top league, Serie A, back then.
In 1930, the club changed its name to A.S. Biellese. After World War II ended, the club was restarted in 1945. They played in Serie B, which is a high league, but then moved down to Serie C. Since then, the club has mostly played in the lower Italian football leagues.
The Biellese 1902 Era
In 1993, a local club called F.C. Vigliano changed its name to F.C.V. Biellese-Vigliano. This club had just moved up to the Eccellenza Piemonte league. In 1997, it became Biellese F.C., and then in 2001, it finally took the name A.S. Biellese 1902.
In the 2006–07 season, A.S. Biellese 1902 played in Serie C2. They finished 17th and had to play in special games to avoid moving down a league. They lost these games to Lumezzane and were moved down to Serie D.
During the Serie D 2007–08 season, the team finished second in their group. They tried to move up through the Serie D playoffs but did not make it to the next stage.
In the Serie D 2008–09 season, Biellese finished first in their group. This meant they won direct promotion to Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. However, the club decided to move themselves down to Eccellenza instead. In the 2009–10 season, they finished 11th in that league. In July 2010, the club officially closed down.
A New Beginning: A.S.D. Junior Biellese Libertas
In the summer of 2010, two smaller local football clubs decided to join together. These were A.S.D. Junior Biellese 2009 and A.S.D. Libertas Biella Cossato. They merged to create a new club called A.S.D. Junior Biellese Libertas. This new club took the place of the old A.S. Biellese 1902.
In the 2010–11 season, the new club played in the same league as A.S.D. Libertas Biella Cossato had before. This was Promozione Piemonte group A. They won their league and were promoted to Eccellenza Piedmont and Aosta Valley.
