IND Eighth Avenue Line facts for kids

The IND Eighth Avenue Line is a busy subway line in New York City. It first opened in 1932. Every day, about one million people ride on this line! It is 23 kilometers (14 miles) long. The trains that use this line are shown in the color blue on subway maps.
Subway Services
Three main subway services use the Eighth Avenue Line. They are:
A: This train runs from Inwood-207th Street in upper Manhattan all the way to Far Rockaway in Queens. It is the longest subway service in New York City, stretching 50 kilometers (31 miles)! A famous jazz song called Take the 'A' Train was even written about this service.
C: This train is also known as the Eighth Avenue Local. It travels from 168th Street to Euclid Avenue. It stops at every station along its route, except during late-night hours.
- E: This train goes from the World Trade Center to Jamaica Center. It runs completely underground for its entire journey. During the day, it's an express train, meaning it skips some stops. But at night, it makes all stops.
