What's the Story About?
This story continues the adventures of two young friends, David and Chuck. They live near the sea and often visit the cliffs.
An Amazing Discovery
After a huge storm, David and Chuck explore the cliffs. They find something truly amazing: very old fossils! These bones are half a million years old. The strange part is that such old fossils should not be found in that area. This discovery puzzles the boys.
Secrets of the Mushroom People
Their unusual find leads them to talk with their wise friend, Tyco Bass. Mr. Bass is a very special person. He knows many secrets about the Mycetians, also known as the Mushroom People. These are tiny beings who live on a hidden planetoid called Basidium. Mr. Bass shares some of the Mycetians' history and their unique customs with the boys.
A New Journey to Basidium
Soon after, Mr. Bass leaves. David and Chuck then meet Prewytt Brumblydge, who is not feeling well. They discover that Mr. Brumblydge has unexpected connections to the Mycetians. This new information makes the boys realize they need to go back to Basidium. They decide to plan a new, unplanned trip to the Mushroom Planet to help their friend and uncover more mysteries.
